Filled Up With God’s Love

Meister Eckhart’s, The Story of the Goblet, was written in awe of God’s handiwork, and provides the key thought for this post.

“It is as when a man fills his goblet from out of a large vessel: the vessel pours out of its fullness, but the goblet sets a limit to the gift. God’s peculiar property is giving. God cannot give if he has nothing to receive his gifts. The would be giver must needs find a taker; without a taker he cannot be a giver for it is the taker by his taking that makes a man a giver. Now God, to be the giver, must discover a receiver. Now, none but the humble can receive the gift of God.”

John 3:16In Jeremiah 31:3 God declares, “I have loved you with an everlasting love,” that is, a love that’s eternal, that has no beginning or end. And God’s love is an exercise of His goodness to us. Love always seeks the good of the loved one, and never wills or seeks harm or evil. God’s love is committed to dealing bountifully and kindly to us, ALWAYS committed to our benefit and blessing. God’s love declares, “You are of first concern to me. Your interests, the very best for you is first in my thinking.” Not only does He focus on you, but amazingly in love God identifies Himself with you on an emotional level. In loving this way God has decided to tie His own final joy and gladness with ours, with those He loves.

“For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life (John 3:16).”

The inmost and infinite desire and constant effort of the Lord is to give Himself to men. He wants to give them His own life and blessedness in the highest and fullest degree possible, but ONLY “in Christ” (Romans 3:24-25). God demonstrates His own love for us in this: while we were still sinners, Christ died for us (Romans 5:8 NIV).

Have you experienced the love of God in your life? Let us know how in the comments section of this post. If not, we would be happy to help you realize His great love for you! Please let us know if we can be of assistance!

Seen but Forgotten

A Look In the Mirror

András Tamás was taken as a prisoner of war while serving as a Hungarian soldier. His native Hungarian language was mistaken for the gibberish of a lunatic, and he was committed to a psychiatric hospital in Russia. Through some unfortunate circumstances, he was forgotten for over 50 years.

Several years ago, a doctor began to realize what had happened and helped Tamás recover the memories of who he was and where he came from. On August 11, 2000 he arrived back in Hungary as “the last prisoner of World War II.

This old man hadn’t seen his own face in five decades! So, for hours the old man studied his face in a mirror…the deep-set eyes, the gray stubble on the chin, the furrows of the brow. It was his face, but what a startling revelation to see it after over fifty years.

Imagine looking at your own face in a mirror and not recognizing it. James 1:22-25 (ESV) says that is what people do when they listen to God’s Word but do not obey it. As we study the scriptures we can see what we really look like…on the inside.

We encourage you to dig into God’s Word, and let us know how we can help! We’d would love to assist in any way that we can!

Bored Beyond Belief

It seems sometimes like there’s the common misconception that Christians have a boring life…that all we do is sit around all day and “watch mud dry.” There are certainly some who talk the Christian talk, but never walk the Christian walk. It’s certainly not easy…it’s usually easier to stay at home and sit in our armchair.

The Christian walk isn’t one that’s supposed to be easy; so we push to live our lives better, to be better people, to love others more, to place more of our faith in our all-powerful God! Imagine being out on a rough ocean at night with the waves crashing all around. Your boat begins to take on water…so much so that it’s starting to sink, and then with 3 small words the sea becomes calm (Mark 4:35-41). Wow! What an adrenaline rush that would be!

The Christian life can actually be a life of adventure because we have hope of something better after this life, and we serve an all-powerful God that loves us so much that He sent His only son to die for us! That’s not boring!

We hope that you’ll come visit us! We would be honored to have you as our guest!

God’s Plan For My Life

God's Word Does God have a plan for us?

God knows man intimately…He created him! If He had wanted robots He would have created them. As Paul explained in Romans 12:1-2, God does not want us to be conformed to the world, but to His Son!

The question we must answer is, “What do we need to do In order to be conformed His Son”? The apostle Paul tells us that we must put on Christ (Romans 13:14). The term “put on” refers to a Greek phrase signifying to assume the interests of another, enter his views, imitate, to be wholly on his side.

“Although He was a son, He learned obedience through what He suffered. And being made perfect, He became the source of eternal salvation to all who obey him…” (Hebrews 5:8-9 ESV)

In order to “put on” Jesus Christ we must determine what Jesus’ character traits were then begin to practice them until we have perfected them to the best of our ability. Paul explained in Romans 12:1-2 that we should be transformed by the renewing of our minds.

What has to be transformed is that which interacts with the world…our personality (character). We are to “put on” Christ, that is assume His personality so that we think and act like Him. I John 4:11-19 speaks of us being perfected “in love”. In order to “put on” Christ, we must “abide in love”.

Some of the more obvious personality traits which we should have are identified by the apostle Paul as follows:

  • Fruit of the Spirit…
    • Love, Joy, Peace, Longsuffering, Gentleness, Goodness, Faith, Meekness and Temperance (Galatians 5:22-23)
  • Love thinks on these things…
    • True things, Things noble or worthy of high esteem, Just things, Pure things, Lovely things, Commendable things, Of any virtue (excellence), and Worthy of Praise (Philippians 4:8)
  •  Love is clothed with…
    •  A compassionate heart, Kindness, Humbleness, Meekness, Longsuffering, Forebearing, Forgiveness, and Love (Colossians 3:12-16)
  • How love behaves…
    • It’s Long-suffering, Is kind, Isn’t envious, Doesn’t boast, Isn’t arrogant or rude, Isn’t self-centered, Is not irritable or resentful, Doesn’t rejoice in sin, Rejoices in the truth, Bears all things, Believes all things, Hopes in all things and Endures all things (1 Corinthians 13:4-7)

God’s plan for us is that we would love Him and others…by our words and our actions! Love, though not always easy, will be worth it on judgement day (I John 5:1-5).

Leave us a comment, and let us know what you think! And come visit us anytime that you can! We would love to be able to meet you!
